Charity Together Annual Conference 2010 Jan

CTG conference

Charity together is Manavata’s initiative to unite charities in order to achieve effectiveness in performing self-less service. It is a consortium of charity organizations which can help each other in bringing excellence. This program facilitates organizations to find and collaborate with appropriate organizations.

On 3rd January 2010, Manavata organised a highly successful Charity Together (CTG) Conference at Hyderabad.

The nine and half hour session attracted charities like LeadIndia2020, Vandematharam foundation, Voice, Smile, Master CVV foundation, Central blood bank and others.

The program included panel discussions on Education, blood donation, health & environment.

Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan, President of Loksatta was chief guest for the function.

Dr. JP, spent around two and half hours at the conference and gave a nice speech and great suggestions to the young leaders present there. In his speech Dr. Narayan gave valuable advice on governance, accountability and effective leadership for the charity organisations to work together.

He said that the government doesn’t do everything in any society. We as humans have to work for the betterment of the society. The United States has the maximum number of Non Govt Organisations (NGOs) in the world as it is easy to register an NGO there.

In India, the federation of charities has to fight with the government to provide legal climate necessary for the creation and smooth running of NGOs. Genuine charity organisations which work for the betterment of society in areas like health, education and environment reduce the burden on government. By realising this, the government has to provide at least tax exemptions to a certain level if not tax credits.

Regardless of when & where an injustice happens to a fellow person we as a whole have to face the dire consequence in near future. So we have to understand the pain of our fellow beings and try to nullify that. A sense of common fate is binding all of us. For that reason we are looking towards charity organisations. But, that is not enough. We have to concentrate on how much the government spends and how effectively it spends each and every penny of people’s money for a strong leverage, multiplier effect and institutionalisation. Rajinikanth Aurori a doctor by profession, started working on a mission 45 yrs back to provide basic health services to everyone with minimum expenditure. He adopted 100 villages in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra and successfully implemented his mission in 5 yrs, by bringing the health indicators of India to a level comparable to that of Britain & America. Since we had proof of concept and technology in hand, the same growth was expected to happen in entire India in thirty years. Unfortunately, that did not happen. From just 100 villages the growth spread to thousands of villages but not to the whole nation. With the strength & leverage that the NGOs have, they are expected to effectively institutionalise & create the required multiplier effect rapidly utilising the proof of concept & technology. Institutionalisation & replication of proof of concept on a mass scale is what is required to eliminate the poverty.

Power is the ability to convert ideas into action. When we lack power, building leadership potential to acquire the   influence to convert ideas into action in a hostile environment with limited resources in the face of stiff competition is the serious short coming that needs to be addressed.

After his speech he also distributed awards to Manavata volunteers who have done good work in 2009.
